Despite all those sooth sayers who question the snow in early December, yet again we had a really good trip. The back bowls were open and we had a day’s white, fluffy powder. The condition of the runs was amazingly good.
This year we stayed at the Landmark condos at Lionshead. The location is excellent and the best/cheapest ski rental shop is next door. We were eleven people in three condos (1 x 3 BR, and 2 x 2 BR). I had worked the numbers to allow for singles and several social events. This resulted in a single supplement to $150 and we had one cocktail reception and three dinners. Since the trip was full, one person from the Pentagon Ski Club made his own air/accommodation arrangements and joined us for the skiing/socializing. We again benefitted from Mike including another small group to boost our numbers for group rates and offset the bus cost.
The return trip to Denver in the snow was very long and slippery but our bus driver was excellent. United Airlines was pretty chaotic and disorganized but we eventually got out and arrived at Dulles at 12.30 a.m. (instead of 4 p.m.).
This size of a group is a trip leader’s delight. It is also not difficult, especially early season, to find places to eat. I recommend that we keep it on our schedule for next season. Despite all the entertaining, we had a slight profit of $87.
