The main group of skiers left Dulles International Airport on Friday on an uneventful United Airlines flight to Munich/Germany. Upon arrival, the group met with other members who were already in Europe to go on a bus drive to Lech that was a very scenic ride overlooking Austrian Alps with waterfalls and cutting tunnels in the mountains.
Upon arrival at the comfortable and welcoming Hotel Bergheim in Lech, the group members quickly found their way around the quaint little town of Lech to arrange for lift tickets as well as rental skis pre-booked with a great group discount. Welcome reception with amazing Prosecco with Sherry (local specialty) and hors d’oeuvres and the introduction from the hotel owner followed.
The hotel itself was located within walking distance to the first lifts to take the skiers to the top of the mountain where the famous “White Ring” (a circle around the entire ski area of Zurs/St.Christoph/St.Anton/Lech) starts. We were able to ski all the way back to the hotel, but we did not do that and preferred to store skis/boots at the rental place next to the lift. The Bergheim also offered a nice Sauna and Steam Bath area where many of the participants met every evening.
Some of the group gathered at a local bar for Apres Ski at Rud Alpe or met at one of the huts for a “Jagatee” before taking the last run down to the hotel.
Since both breakfast and dinner were included in the price, the trip participants found it easy to bond and had a great time chatting during the meals.
One of the days we had a great jazz guitar soiree performed by Evan Curtis Tanner which we enjoyed with complementary drinks from the Ski Club. Thank you, Evan!
We had four days of blue skies, two days of snowing…Not bad: fresh snow, blue skies, suntan.
In summary, the group had a lot of fun during the week with lots of compliments for a “Demi-Pension” type of arrangement (i.e. Breakfast and Dinner at the Hotel) which contributed a lot to the overall group dynamic.
